Elizabeth Lewellen Grubbs

Elizabeth Jane, daughter of John and Minerva Lewellen was born in the western part of Union Township, Montgomery County Dec 31, 1859 and departed this life Feb 1, 1919 aged 60 years, one month. She was the 9th child in a family of 12. Her nature was deeply religious and from early childhood has been marked by devotion to her church. She became a member of Salem Baptist Church in 1875 and after coming to the Elmdale neighborhood placed her membership in the Liberty Christian Church later on March 26, 1911 she united with the Primitive Baptist Church of Elmdale. March 23, 1879 she united in marriage with John Wesley Grubbs, and almost 40 years found her greatest pleasure in the home they made together, two children, Mrs. Walter Blackford and William C. Grubbs were born to them and with the husband survive. There are also two granddaughters, Evelyn and Mary Blackford and four brothers and two sisters, Candy Lewllen of Crawfordsville; James of Paris, Ill; Thomas, Waynetown; Harve, Crawfordsville; Mrs. Eliza Harwood of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Kate Titus of Lafayette and a host of relatives and friends. - kbz
